WAQT BELAGAM
Punjabi Poetry
Waqt Belagam marks the third stage in Kanwaljit Bhullar's long poetic journey spanning four decades.
In this collection, Bhullar responds to the realities of his times - the cruelty and violence around us, the changing face of ethics and morality, and the quieter experiences of loneliness and love. His poetry is equally attentive to those delicate moments of emotion that often pass unnoticed in everyday life.
One of the distinctive qualities of his poetry is his sensitive observation of nature. A bird searching for a nest amid the expanding four-lane highways, or someone setting out to look for spring only to return carrying the colours of autumn, becomes more than an image - it becomes a reflection on the changing world and the human condition.
At its heart, the collection views poetry as a search for truth and freedom. For Bhullar, poetry cannot become the voice of submission; it must retain the courage to question, observe and speak.
There is also a deeply human philosophy running through these poems: to live is itself life's greatest value. Against hardship, pain, loneliness and failure, the struggle to keep moving forward becomes an affirmation of life.
Waqt Belagam is therefore not merely a collection of poems. It is a poetic journey through darkness and light, despair and hope, solitude and love - a journey in which the poet continues to search for the meaning of being alive.
