The year kicked off with a significant controversy in Indian wrestling notably the women's wrestling movement that unfolded in Delhi. Female athletes protested against the president of the Wrestling Federation of India, drawing attention to gender-based challenges in sports. They leveled serious allegations against BJP Leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The accusations ranged from corruption to manipulation within the wrestling community. Wrestlers demanded a thorough investigation into the matter, seeking justice and transparency. This controversy stirred discussions about the intersection of sports and politics in India.
